영국 여배우, 감독, 작가
핸콕은 1950년대 레퍼터리에의 멤버로 활동하면서 1958년 웨스트엔드에 연극 <Breath of Spring>으로 데뷔한다. 1959년에는 <Make Me An Offer> 워크샵에 참여하였고, 1962년 <Rattle of a Simple Man>에 출연하였다.
1965년에는 연극 <Entertaining Mr Sloane>으로 브로드웨이에 데뷔하였다. 1978년에는 런던에서 뮤지컬 <Annie>에 미스 해닝건으로 출연하였다. 또한, 웨스트엔드에서 뮤지컬 <Sweeney Todd>에도 출연하였다.
<The Winter’s Tale>, <Titus Andronicus>, 셰익스피어 컴퍼니 작품 <A Delicate Balance> 등에 출연하였으며, <The Cherry Orchard>, <The Duchess of Malfi>에 출연하였다. <A Midsummer Night’s Dream>는 그녀가 처음으로 연출을 맡은 작품이었고, 이어서 <The Critic>도 연출하였다.
2006년 웨스트엔드 뮤지컬 <Cabaret>에 출연하였고, 이 작품으로 올리비에 어워즈에서 여우조연상을 수상하였다. 2009년에는 <Sister Act the Musical>에 원장수녀를 맡아 공연 중이다. 그밖에도 TV, 영화 등에 출연하여 다양한 활동을 보여주고 있다.
